Digital Drama has been awarded a National Lottery Heritage Fund to capture, preserve and share memories of life in Deal and Sandwich. Through reminiscence workshops and oral history recordings, the project will create a new short film and digital audio ballad.
Salt and Stone captures, preserves and shares the heritage of life in East Kent through traditional storytelling and archive-inspired film. In partnership with Deal Museum, Sandwich Guildhall Museum and Kent Maps Online, Digital Drama will train local volunteers in reminiscence, oral history and storytelling skills, building confidence and enhancing employability.
Together with Digital Drama and Age UK, participants will co-facilitate reminiscence sessions and record oral histories. These will inspire a BSL-interpreted short film featuring archival material from local museum collections.
Alongside this, a digital audio ballad celebrating local storytelling will be co-created in workshops led by writer, poet and Professor of Victorian Literature Carolyn Oulton of Canterbury Christ Church University. The finished work will be published on Kent Maps Online, ensuring wide public access to the project’s creative and historical outputs.
