Digital Drama recorded memories residents of Kingston of V.E. Day to form part of an audio installation at Rose Theatre to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

V.E. Day was the official celebration of Victory in Europe Day, the public holiday to mark the end of World War II in Europe. In the UK millions of people celebrated in the streets on 8th May 1945 to mark the end of the European part of the war.

The project focused on preserving and sharing the personal memories of members of the community who experienced V.E. Day first hand. Their reminiscences of such an extraordinary moment in world history help to tell the local story of the official end of the European conflict.
An installation of local streets and wartime garden complete with an Anderson Shelter featured the recorded memories. Watch this short video of the street party attended by Mayor of Kingston Ken Smith, veterans and contributors of the project, featuring the Buckingham Primary School Choir and dancers Everything’s Jumpin’.
